Cameras, Alta and Unity video software, recording servers, and access control.
Avigilon cameras run on Avigilon Alta Video in the cloud or Avigilon Unity Video on-premise. Access control follows the same choice with Avigilon Alta Access and Avigilon Unity Access, so video and doors live in one system.
Unity runs on your own server, so your video and access data stay in your building and under your IT team’s control. Alta runs in the cloud, with no server on site, automatic updates and management from anywhere. Which one fits mostly comes down to where you want your data.
Avigilon Alta is sold as a subscription. Avigilon Unity is a perpetual license, with plans available that enable major version updates.

Yes. Avigilon cameras follow the ONVIF standard, so they record on other video systems such as Milestone XProtect. The main feature you lose off Unity is Appearance Search.
Appearance Search finds a person or vehicle across your recorded video from a description or an example, so you are not scrubbing through hours of footage. It runs on Avigilon Unity Video.
